The traditional hi-vis vest, whilst functional, has been accused of being rather 'unflattering', which got us thinking about how it would look if there was a hi-vis vest that you weren't ashamed to wear."
Sarah Easterby, Fashion Lecturer at Oaklands College said, "It's a fantastic opportunity to work iwth Comma on this safety campaign and for Oaklands fashion students to take part in a live project and gain hands-on experience.
"This brief pushes the boundaries slightly but, I hope it reinforces the message that, however it looks, you should wear a high visibilty vest if you have to get out of your car by the side of the road. This project channels the students' creative energy through a different avenue and will hopefully help to prepare them for the fashion industry."
Comma's advice for any motorist who has the misfortune to break down at the side of the road is to put the visi vest on, vacate the car and move to a safe distance before calling and waiting for assistance. Mike Bewsey adds; "Our message about being safe and seen in the event of an accident or breakdown is a seriouus one but we hope this rather light-hearted approach will help raise awareness."
For further information about the Safe and Seen campaign vist www.safeandseen.co.uk.
To find out more about Comma Oil and Chemicals visit www.commaoil.com.

UK Batteries Opens New Glasgow Depot

UK Batteries has further strengthened its position as a leading supplier of battery products in Scotland by opening a brand-new distribution depot in Glasgow.
The decision to invest in a dedicated site in Scotland has been driven by UK Batteries’ desire to give its customers easy access to its market-leading battery brands that include the Platinum, Oldham, Crompton, and Tungstone names.
With the addition of Glasgow to its distribution network, UK Batteries now has 7 depots in the UK – giving excellent geographical coverage for customers.
“By opening a new depot in Glasgow, we will be able to give our ever-expanding customer base in Scotland an even stronger overall service package,” UK Batteries’ marketing and communications director, Neil Warren, explained.
“We have invested in our own dedicated fleet of vehicles and drivers to service our customers in the region. Power adaptors are available for keeping such gadgets charged on the move. However, buying special adaptors for all your electrical equipment is an expensive option.
The best option for keeping gadgets powered while on the move is an inverter. Simply plug an inverter into a cigarette lighter socket and you have 240V AC electricity supply for charging in-car.
New from Ring comes the MP120 compact inverter. Ring Automotive has combined its award winning inverter technology in an ultra slim design that provides 120w power output.
The compact design along with a coiled DC cable allows the inverter to be positioned in a variety of places that are convenient and discreet. To securely fix in position the MP:120 is supplied with hook and eye tape.
The MP120 also comes with a USB charging point to recharge mobile phones and MP3 players while at the same as using the mains power.
Another clever design feature is a spring tension switch on the DC plug to ensure a secure connection for different sized cigarette lighter sockets. The unit is manufactured from scratchproof, shock-resistant ABS to match quality car interiors.
For safety the inverter incorporates overload circuit protection to protect the vehicle, the powered appliance and of course the consumer.
Product Manager David Smith says “The MP120 takes inverter technology to another level. Combining a sleek compact design with a powerful out put makes the MP120 an ideal match for the top-range gadgets being charged.”
MP120 (Part Number RINV120 ) has a Suggested Retail Price of £34.99. The filters offer high filtering efficiency, stopping even the smallest particles, and a high life span, due to the presence of a pre-filter on the cartridge that increases the filters absorption capacity. The centrifugal effect created also prevents water from entering the filter and separates a greater amount of dust.
The cartridge contains no metal elements (making it environmentally friendly) and is easy to install and maintain. In our Metal Cased Chargers our brand new 30 amp charger is out largest yet and will charge either 12 volt or 24 volt and through its built in boost function can charge as fast or slow as required”.
The new charger compliments the existing 12 amp and 20 amp versions, and, says Daniel, “they are all ideal for any car owner”.
“The Metal Battery Chargers have been proven now over the last year and our new 30 amp charger has already been selling extremely well”, he continued.
Also, to add to the existing range of Starter Chargers Maypole have added two new models , the 170 amp and 250 amp chargers, which are ideal for any garage or forecourt where the boost function may be needed on vehicles left to stand or with poorer batteries.
All of this new range also compliments the full range of plastic chargers, to which they have added a new Automatic 7 amp and a 12 amp in plastic.
Full details of Maypole’s range can be obtained from your local CAAR Store (click here) or by calling Maypole on 0121 423 3011.
